Documents required to be an Au Pair in Italy

The possibility of applying for a visa and the exact procedure depends on the nationality of the girl and the specific legislation between her country of origin and Italy. If the au pair is from a European Union or EFTA country, they generally do not need a visato enter or stay in Italy.

For all other nationalities, a visa is required.

Generally the documents required are:

  •  A valid passport.
  • A formal agreement (“contract”) signed between the host family and the au pair, specifying the terms of the stay (duration, working hours, allowance, accommodation, etc.).
  • Proof of adequate financial resources for sustenance or a letter of invitation from the host family that undertakes to cover the expenses.
  • Medical certificate of good health
  • A criminal record certificate (may be required).
  • Proof of medical insurance for the entire duration of the stay.
  • Flights tickets (return ticket)

Once the au pair arrives in Italy, they will still need to complete a few formalities to be fully compliant: Apply for a residence permit and inform the police headquarters/municipality of residence of your presence in the country by providing your accommodation address.
