Why Us
The best cultural & language exchange experience for young foreigners
First of all we know what we are talking about…
ELIassociation collected experiences of people that lived in Italy as Au Pair and Tutor and it was founded on the idea of sharing what we learnt in these years with those who want to enjoy the same experience for the first time.
We want to give you practical tips to support you on this journey, step by step, like a friend on your side.
We will work together to find the answers to all your questions, with the aim of expanding the community of those who participate in this cultural exchange experience.
We are looking forward to hearing from both side:au pairs/tutorsandhost families, to be in between to do the best match.
We believe that cultural exchange language is a driving force for personal growth.
WE WANT TO LEAD YOU IN YOUR AU PAIR EXPERIENCE IN ITALY WITH CARE AND PASSION

Au pair in Italy
“Au pair” placement is the temporary reception by families, in exchange for certain services, of young foreigners who come to improve their linguistic and possibly professional knowledge as well as their general culture by acquiring a better knowledge of the country where they are
received(European Agreement on “au pair” Placement, Strasbourg, 24.XI.1969).
The Italian Law No 304 of 8 May 1973 implements the European Agreement on Au pair Placement
The au pairs are between 17 and 30 years of age; they receive board and lodging from the host family; as far as possible, they are provided with a single room. The au pair shall have at least one full day off each week, including at least one Sunday per month, and shall be given every opportunity to attend services of their religion.
The au pair shall receive a certain sum of money (POCKET MONEY) for petty expenses, the amount and frequency of which shall be set out in the agreement between au pair and family, before leave.
The au pair must provide the host family with services like:
participation in normal household chores, babysitter of the children’s family; the time dedicated to such tasks shall not exceed 5 hours per day. To Au pair needs to be given sufficient time to attend language courses and to develop their cultural and professional skills; to this end, every effort will be made to adjust their working hours appropriately.

Tutor in Italy
Another experience similar to that of an au pair, but with a focus on the teaching languages, is working as a Tutor.
A Tutor is a young foreigner who offers to help the members of the host family learn their language (in Italy, English is one of the most popular languages).
They generally do not perform household chores, apart from making their contribution like all other family members, and dedicate their ‘service’ hours to teaching English.
Usually Tutor should have have a certain level of education and some interest or experience in teaching languages.
Like the au pairs, they must be allowed to take a course to learn the Italian language. They can work maximum 30 hours per week with at leat one day off.
